WINNER:
Aidan Lee
Aidan’s winning image pulls you in immediately. A vibrantly clothed woman and her umbrella against the muted tones of a wet Tokyo street creates a cinematic moment- one that feels both fleeting and deeply intentional. The elongated shadow deepens a sense of mystery. Silhouettes by themselves tend to symbolize solitude, but the duality of this, alongside her vibrant presence, turns an ordinary crosswalk into a stage of poetic symmetry. Congratulations, Aidan, on your artistic shot!
HONOURABLE MENTION:
David Lees
Our runner-up, David Lee’s photograph, is a testament to the magic of chance. While stepping outside on a cold, wet, rainy day, for only a few minutes, David turned around to leave before a lone bird landed on a branch of New Zealand’s world-famous Wanaka Tree. David quickly snapped the photo before heading inside, thinking nothing of it until months later when culling through photos. It was then that he realized he had captured something special.
Although photographed countless times, the iconic Wanaka Tree feels intimate and unguarded in this photo. The quiet silhouette creates a visual pause that invites the viewer into a moment of reflective stillness. It’s understated, contemplative, and minimalistic.
David said of his photo, “I realized what I had captured: a solitary tree, a single bird, a quiet mountain. It perfectly reflects the beauty and stillness of loneliness.”
HONOURABLE MENTION:
David McClure
Placing on the podium once again, is David McClure and his photo of a Leucistic Red Squirrel. Be deceived not by its name, for this squirrel is actually white. The locals call him Marley, and he seems to be a natural in front of the camera. Marley is alert and impossibly photogenic with a head tilt that could easily mistake him for a runway model as he effortlessly commands the stage as if he were strutting under the spotlight. His confidence and charisma transform a simple forest scene into a showcase of personality and poise.
