Sony Announces New A7C Series Cameras

Sony is once again bringing premium camera features to more affordable models. Introducing the latest additions to their lineup: the Sony A7C II priced at $2,999.99 and the Sony A7C R priced at $4,099.99. These two compact mirrorless siblings share a striking resemblance in terms of appearance and functionality, differing mainly in their sensor resolutions. This dynamic camera duo follows in the footsteps of the well-received A7C from 2020. Scheduled for a September release, they will be accompanied by the new Sony FE 16–35mm f/2.8 II ultrawide zoom lens, available at $3,099.99. Sony A7C II:

  • 2.36M dot EVF w/ 0.7x magnification

  • Aimed at hybrid photo/video shooters looking for almost all of the features of the more expensive A7 IV, in a more compact body design.

Sony A7CR:

  • Same body design as the previous A7C, with an added front control dial and optional grip extension (included)
  • Same 61MP Exmor R CMOS Sensor as the A7RV
  • Bionz XR Image Processor
  • Dedicated AI-processing unit (Subject recognition, auto-framing)
  • 8fps Continuous shooting
  • AI-powered autofocus (same performance as the A7RV)
  • 4K24/30p video, sub-sampled/pixel-binned (Full-Frame)
  • 4K60 video, sub-sampled/pixel binned (1.2x crop) or oversampled from 6.2K (Super35 crop).
  • Internal LUT previews
  • Micro-HDMI connector
  • 7.0 EV rated IBIS system
  • Single SD card slot (UHS-II)
  • 3.0” vari-angle touchscreen
  • 2.36M dot EVF w/ 0.7x magnification
  • Sony NP-FZ100 Battery
  • Aimed at high-end photographers looking for as much resolution as possible in a compact body. Ideal for studio shooters, landscapists, travelers, macro shooters and those looking to either crop their photos a tremendous amount, or to print large, extremely detailed shots.

Sony 16-35mm F2.8 GM II:

  • 10% smaller and 20% lighter than the previous 16-35mm F2.8 GM
  • Improved corner-to-corner sharpness
  • Reduced chromatic aberration
  • Improved close-up performance (22cm minimum focus distance)
  • 15 lens elements in 12 groups
  • Added aperture control ring, ability to switch between smooth and clicked stops.
  • Minimal focus breathing for video, with compatibility for Focus Breathing Correction on select camera models.
  • Aimed at landscape/cityscape photographers, high-end vloggers and those looking to fill out their trinity of F2.8 lenses (16-35, 24-70, 70-200).
