Photo News Friday - September 2nd, Tamron Z-Mount

Welcome back to another edition of Photo News Friday! We’ve got some special event announcements this week as well as some exciting news for Nikon mirrorless shooters that may or may not involve Tamron! Sound good? Then read on, true believers!

Sony Alpha announcing a robotics-centred camera on Tuesday, September 6th:

This week Sony published a teaser for an upcoming PTZ camera, likely to feature a Sony E-Mount. PTZ or Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras are all-in-one devices that are typically operated as remote cameras; think of the board-mounted cams at Oilers games or the fact that you never see a cameraman on reality TV- both of these are solved with a PTZ camera.

This new announcement from Sony seems to be geared towards professional cinematographers, possibly to compete with the likes of DJI’s Ronin 4D.

Hasselblad expected to launch a new medium-format body this Wednesday:

The long-rumoured and anticipated successor to Hasselblad’s incredible X1D is expected to launch next week, with Hasselblad posting a teaser for a live event on their website. The supposed X2D is rumoured to feature a 100MP sensor with improved stabilization and autofocus, making it fall nicely into place alongside the Fujifilm GFX100s. Only time will tell as to what this new camera brings to the table, so be sure to read our follow-up next week with all the official details!

Fujifilm Summit this Thursday, September 8th:

Fujifilm is holding its next X Summit in New York City next Thursday. Though they haven’t shared any details at this point, we’re hoping to get a glimpse at the rumoured X-H2 or X-T5 cameras, or the 30mm F2.8 Macro and 56mm F1.2 that are still unfilled spots on Fuji’s 2022 roadmap.

Be sure to follow our Twitter account as we’ll be live-tweeting all the important events this week. Check out next week’s Photo News Friday for a rundown on all the announcements.

Tamron announces the development of their first Z-mount lens:

Touted as the ‘world’s smallest and lightest telephoto zoom for full-frame mirrorless cameras’, Tamron’s newly announced 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD is sure to be a relief for any Z-mount shooters that may have worried that their lenses would be limited to first-party options only. The upcoming lens, expected to be released sometime later this Fall, will feature the following:

  • 77mm filter thread
  • 14.98cm long, 1.28lbs
  • 15 elements in 10 groups, LD element to reduce aberrations
