CineD has launched a new camera/lens database tool:

Filmmaking news and reviews website CineD has launched a fantastically useful set of databases on their website, where users can browse & compare camera and lens models, use a handy crop-factor tool to determine which lens to choose and find useful information about every listed model.

The database is currently still in development and is missing a few models. Updates are happening daily, so be sure to check back if you don’t see a particular camera!

DJI launches their new entry-level FPV drone, the Avata:

DJI announced their second FPV drone yesterday, this time a compact, cinewoop-style unit, tailored for beginners. The new drone features a lot of the same tech included in the original FPV and has been paired with a new controller and Goggle 2 headset. At 410g, the Avata is almost half the weight of the previous FPV and comes with built-in propeller guards to prevent damage to both the drone and mom’s rose bushes. The full technical specs of the new Avata are as follows:

  • 48MP CMOS image sensor
  • 12.6mm equivalent lens
  • 4K/60p and 2.7K/100p recording
  • Downward obstacle sensor
  • 97kph top speed
  • 18 minute flight time
  • RTH, Emergency Brake & Hover Flight assistance
  • Live digital feed at 1080/100p

The DJI Avata is ready to fly straight out of the box, and features a handy “Turtle” mode for calibration before flight.

The Avata is available now for order on DJI’s website. It is available as a Pro-View Combo (drone, new goggles, handheld Motion Controller), Fly Smart Combo (drone, previous-gen goggles, handheld Motion Controller) and the drone by itself. The drone will cost from $819 to $1,809, depending on your selection.
