Tamron announces the development of the new 20-40mm f/2.8 for Sony E Mount:

Tamron has officially announced their work on a new 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD lens for full-frame Sony E Mount cameras, expected to be released sometime before the end of the year. Key details that have been noted thus far are as follows:

  • Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive (VXD) Autofocus motor
  • Minimum focus distance of just 17cm
  • 1:3.8 Magnification Ratio at 20mm
  • 67mm filter thread
  • 8.64cm long, weighs 365g.
  • Designed for vloggers

Though details are sparse at this juncture, the lens does seem to be an interesting choice for Sony shooters and one that could pair beautifully with the 35-150mm f/2-2.8, also made by Tamron.
