Before charging headfirst into a brand-new year, we took one last moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate the creativity that carried us through 2025. We really did wrap 2025 in a fitting bow.
Our December Monthly Photo Contest delivered something truly special – a reminder of quiet observation before pressing the shutter. December’s photos resonated as soft endings and thoughtful reflections: powerfully strong still frames that sang winter’s songs of stillness, revealing the intricate details that appear only when we pause long enough to watch the magic unfold.
One image, in particular, radiated a serene stillness, set against a backdrop of harmonious shapes and bold, crisp angles.

WINNER
Arturo Jr. Rivo
Arturo Jr. Rivo takes the crown for our December Photo Contest with a striking black-and-white image that feels both intimate but grand. His photograph captures a lone figure, ascending an indoor staircase. It feels like a suspended moment in time. Set within an architectural marvel, the scene is alive with contrast: bold, angular lines interwoven with soft, rounded shapes, and a dramatic light that casts shadows, giving them depth. Arturo describes it simply, “An interior photo of the Calgary Public Library showcasing its magnificent architecture and striking, dramatic lighting”.
This image embodies the reflective, thoughtful spirit of December – quiet, poised, and a profoundly visual punctuation mark to close out 2025
HONOURABLE MENTION
Tavia Stewart
Our Honourable Mention goes to Tavia Stewart, whose photograph captures the quiet magic of Alberta’s winter. Delicate hoarfrost glistens with crisp detail against the soft, warm glow of dusk. The bokeh background transforms this photo into a golden dream, evoking a sense of calm serenity and wonder. It reminds us how much beauty lies in the small details of a frosted day.
HONOURABLE MENTION
Italo Pino
Our next honourable mention goes to another architectural gem from Italo Pino. His image plays artistically with contrast and framing to capture one of Edmonton’s historical landmarks, the Rossdale Power Plant. Captured beneath the 105 Street Bridge an hour before sunset, the photograph is composed through a striking concrete triangular opening with the Power Plant bathed in warm light. The juxtaposition between shadow and sun creates a compelling visual dialogue that invites viewers to linger a bit longer.
Together, these images close out the year with reflection, intention and creative curiosity. Stepping into the New Year, we look ahead to a fresh year of shooting and storytelling and look forward to everyone’s future submissions as we take a moment to soak in more submissions from our December Photo Contest that closed out the year.
