Adding to their growing lineup of solutions for all types of creators, today Canon announced new video-focused cameras and lenses to enhance your story-telling capabilities. Whether you are filming product reviews, live streaming your gaming accomplishments, or working on a long-form video essay, Canon seeks to answer all the challenges you face. Let's dive into the new releases!
Canon PowerShot V1
Originally announced in February at the CP+ 2025 show in Yokohama, Japan, the Canon PowerShot V1 has officially been released worldwide. Aiming to impress creators in the Youtubing and Tiktoking spaces, this lightweight and compact point-and-shoot offers extended recording times, enhanced subject detection and tracking, a built-in neutral density filter and simplified workflow and connectivity.
While primarily a vlogging-style camera, the V1 is also very capable in still photography. Its large 1.4 type, 22MP sensor, mechanical shutter and RAW capabilities ensure Canon's new point-and-shoot is far from a one-trick pony.
PowerShot V1 Highlights:
- A newly designed grip created for both normal and selfie shooting.
- Ultra wide-angle zoom lens—approximately 17-52mm for movie recording and 16-50mm/F2.8-4.5 for still imagery.
- New 1.4 type sensor with approximately 22.3 megapixels for stills.
- Dual Pixel CMOS AF II for PowerShot for improved AF speed and subject detection tracking performance when compared to the PowerShot G7 X Mark III.
- A cooling fan inside the body helps enable longer video recording.
- A still image/movie shooting switch for quick and easy transition—the first in a PowerShot camera.
- Continuous still shooting at up to approximately 30 frames per second, a mechanical shutter with a maximum speed of 1/2000 seconds, and an electronic shutter with a maximum shutter speed of 1/16,000 seconds.
The Canon Powershot V1 is expected to arrive in April and is now available for pre-order at McBain for $1349.99

Canon EOS R50 V
For creators looking for a more cinematic look, Canon has announced a video-focused R50 variant. The EOS R50 V ditches the viewfinder and built-in flash in favour of a smaller form factor while gaining a front-facing record button and tally lamp. There is also a built-in tripod screw hole for vertical shooting, opening up the ability to shoot portrait-style social media content using virtually any type of tripod or support system.
Accompanying the EOS R50 V is a brand-new power zoom lens. The RF-S14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ provides a 22.5-48mm equivalent focal range and the ability to select different zoom speeds between setting up your shot and recording. This means you can quickly establish your framing before recording and get a slow, smooth zoom while filming.
EOS R50 V Highlights:
- Video-focused design elements such as a live stream button, a movie recording button in the front of the camera, and a tripod screw hole for vertical shooting.
- Dual Pixel CMOS AF II for quiet and smooth AF.
- Ability to shoot 4K crop at 60fps and YCC 422 10bit.
- Compatibility with the newly launched RF-S14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ, the first RF-S lens with built-in power zoom.
- Four different methods of live streaming: UVC/UAC, HDMI, Camera Connect, and Live Switcher Mobile multi-camera.
- APS-C sensor and DIGIC X image processor for rich bokeh.
- Image creation is consistent with Cinema EOS with five presets for editing, such as Canon Log 3.
Like the V1, the R50 V is also expected to arrive in April. Pre-order it today at McBain for $1279.99
