Meet the RX10 V – Sony Debutes Fifth Gen All-in-One Super Zoom

Sony's long-awaited update to its compact super-zoom is finally here with the introduction of the RX10 V. You have to rewind the clock all the way back to September of 2017 for the last release in the RX10 series, but Sony has made many key innovations since that have found their way into this new all-in-one super zoom.

The RX10 V has been reloaded with the ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm F2.4-4.0 lens and a familiar large 20.1MP 1.0-type image sensor, but the winning combination now benefits from Sony’s AI-powered Real-Time Recognition autofocus. Its fast and accurate processing can detect and track subjects such as people, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and airplanes.
Sony Electronics Introduces RX10 V – The Fifth Generation of the All-in-One Super Zoom Camera for Travel, Wildlife, and Sports Photography

AI-powered Real-time Recognition AF and High-speed Performance with a 24-600mm1 Zoom.

San Diego — July 9, 2026 — Sony Electronics announces the RX10 V, the fifth generation of its RX10 all-in-one camera series. A single body covers wide-angle to super-telephoto through a large-aperture ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm1 (25x optical zoom) F2.4-4.0 lens.

The RX10 V keeps the series’ resolution, super-telephoto reach, and integrated lens design, and adds AI-powered Real-time Recognition AF (auto focus) for accurate subject identification. Paired with blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30 fps2 (frames per second) with full 60 fps/sec. AF/AE (auto exposure) tracking, it holds focus on fast, unpredictable subjects. A 20.1 megapixels (approximately effective) 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS™ CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR™ processing engine drive both stills and up to 4K 120p3 video, covering a wide variety of scenarios spanning from everyday moments to wildlife to school sports. The large aperture and 1.0-type sensor render soft, natural background blur.

The RX10 V borrows its button layout and grip design from the a™ (Alpha™) mirrorless series for intuitive control. A larger4 Quad-VGA OLED electronic viewfinder shows fine detail clearly in bright sun or indoors, helping you compose precisely. The Z-series NP-FZ100 battery extends still shooting to approximately 630 shots5, roughly 50% more than the previous model4.

“The RX10 series camera became a cult classic because it is a joy to shoot with in real life scenarios, and its range is unparalleled in a compact camera body. With the camera’s fifth generation we are bringing valuable features from our Alpha line to make the RX10 V an unbeatable choice for any passionate wildlife, birding, or sports photographer,” said Yang Cheng, Vice President of Imaging Solutions, Sony Electronics.

Pricing and Availability: The RX10 V will be available for a suggested retail price of $2,299.99 US / $2,899.99 CAD from August 2026.

RX10 V Key Features

Wide-angle to super-telephoto image quality in one camera

A ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T* F2.4-4.0 zoom covers 24mm to 600mm1 (25x) with optical image stabilization, spanning everyday shots to sports and wildlife. Macro focusing reaches approximately 3cm (1.18-inches) at 24mm1 and approximately 72cm (28.3-inches) at 600mm1 for tele-macro.

he BIONZ XR™ image processing engine keeps noise low at mid-to-high ISO, including indoors and in low light. Skin tones, skies, and greenery hold high resolution with accurate color and texture.

Twelve Creative Look presets set color and texture in-camera, and you can customize each one. The updated D-Range Optimizer (DRO) balances highlights and shadows across a wider range, up to Lv8, lifting shadows in strong backlight for more natural portraits.

AI-powered subject recognition and high-speed performance

Real-time Recognition AF, driven by an AI-processing unit, recognizes people, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and airplanes, with an Auto mode that identifies the subject type for you.6 Human pose estimation tracks people even when they turn away or wear helmets or sunglasses. Touch a subject to start Real-time Tracking, which follows it steadily while you focus on composition.

Track fast movement and capture decisive moments up to 30 fps2 while keeping your view uninterrupted with blackout-free continuous shooting. Up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second7 maintains precise focus and exposure on wildlife, sports, and other fast-moving, unpredictable subjects, so you can stay locked on the action from start to finish.

The Continuous Shooting Speed Boost function2 increases burst speed when selected during a sequence.

Video features

The RX10 V records up to 4K 120p video3, including 4K slow motion at up to 5x8. Active Mode stabilization steadies handheld footage. The Multi Interface (MI) Shoe™ supports a digital audio signal with compatible microphones (sold separately) for clean recording. AI subject recognition also drives an Auto Framing function9 that keeps the subject centered during recording.

S-Cinetone™ gives cinematic color straight away, and S-Log3 leaves room for post-production grading. You can import up to 16 user LUTs and monitor the graded look while shooting in Log.10 Time-lapse and still-image extraction with Shot Mark round out the video tools.

Handling and reliability

A 0.5-type Quad-VGA OLED viewfinder with approximately 3.68 million dots and approximately 0.78x magnification11 shows the subject clearly for composition. A 3.0-type LCD monitor, upgraded to approximately 1.62 million dots, displays fine detail.

The NP-FZ100 battery supports approximately 630 shots5 per charge, roughly 50% more4 than the previous model.

A button layout and grip based on the a series, plus a responsive eight-direction multi-selector, keep operation intuitive even through the viewfinder.

A dust- and moisture-resistant design12 suits varied conditions, and Wi-Fi (2.4/5 GHz) handles fast, stable transfers.13 USB Type-C® supports high-speed transfer and 4K 30p live streaming.

Creators’ App connects the RX10 V to your smartphone to send files to the cloud or phone, control the camera remotely, and update software.

Canon Reveals New EOS R6 V Full-frame Video Focused Camera and RF20-50mm F4 L IS USM PZ Lens.

Today Canon announced the Canon EOS R6 V, which marks a clear step forward in Canon’s growing video-first ecosystem, pairing a high-resolution full-frame sensor with purpose-built filmmaking tools in a compact, creator-friendly body. Thoughtfully designed with modern content workflows in mind, it blends strong video specs—like 7K recording, open-gate capture, and advanced autofocus—with usability features, such as internal cooling, vertical shooting support, and enhanced stabilization.

Paired with the new RF20–50mm F4 L IS USM PZ, Canon’s first L-series lens with integrated power zoom, the system emphasizes smooth, controlled shooting for handheld and gimbal work. Altogether, this release signals Canon’s continued focus on creators who need reliable, flexible tools that can move easily between solo production, social video, and more involved filmmaking projects.

What will make this setup stand out for our customers his how naturally it fits into real-world shooting. The power zoom allows for smooth, precise focal transitions, something that is often difficult to achieve without dedicated cinema equipment. The camera's stabilization and cooling support longer, more consistent shooting sessions.

Sony Unveils The FE 100-400mm F4.5 G Master OSS

Sony’s latest FE 100–400mm F4.5 G Master OSS refines one of its most versatile telephoto ranges with a clear focus on speed, consistency, and field usability. By introducing a constant F4.5 aperture, faster autofocus performance, and a more balanced internal zoom design, this updated lens is built to better support demanding scenarios like wildlife, sports, and photojournalism. It maintains the optical precision expected of the G Master line while improving responsiveness and handling for photographers who rely on long reach without sacrificing mobility.

Altogether, we expect the FE 100–400mm F4.5 G Master OSS to be a thoughtful update to a well-established workhorse. Rather than reinventing the category, Sony has focused on the areas that matter most in the field—faster autofocus, consistent exposure control, and improved balance when tracking moving subjects. For photographers who regularly work at longer focal lengths, it’s a refinement that prioritizes confidence and control where it counts.

The Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5 is available to pre-order today and is to hit store shelves in June 2026.

Sony Electronics Unveils The FE 100-400mm F4.5 G Master OSS

SAN DIEGO, May 13, 2026 — Sony Electronics Inc. introduces the FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS, the newest addition to its flagship G Master™ lens series for full-frame AlphaTM E-mount cameras. Covering a 100-400mm focal range with a constant F4.5 aperture, the lens delivers the exceptional resolution and bokeh that define the G Master series, high-precision autofocus (AF) up to approximately 3x faster1,2 than the FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS. Weighing approximately 65 oz. (1,840 g) with an internal zoom structure, its stable weight balance offers highly mobile shooting capabilities. The FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS gives wildlife, birding, sports, and photojournalism creators the speed, reach, and image quality to capture decisive moments in any environment, expanding their creative possibilities.

"Our creators want super-telephoto reach with G Master optical quality in a body light enough to shoot handheld all day. The FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS delivers constant F4.5 aperture, dramatically faster autofocus, and a build that keeps up with the user’s instincts, whether tracking a bird in flight or working the sideline at a championship match," said Yang Cheng, Vice President of Imaging Solutions, Sony Electronics Inc.

        Uncompromising G Master Optics

Resolves fine detail across the full 100-400mm zoom range, even wide open at F4.5

Optical design featuring newly developed ED XA (Extra-low Dispersion extreme aspherical), XA (extreme aspherical), two Super ED (extra-low Dispersion), and three ED glass elements, effectively controlling multiple aberrations including chromatic and spherical aberration to achieve exceptional resolution from center to edge across the entire zoom range

Nano AR Coating II reduces ghosting and flare for high-contrast results in backlit conditions

11-blade circular aperture with precision spherical aberration control produces the signature G Master bokeh

Constant F4.5 maximum aperture eliminates exposure shifts while zooming

Compatible with optional teleconverters3 for focal lengths up to 800 mm or 1,200 mm in APS-C mode4

Autofocus That Keeps Pace With The Action

Four custom-optimized XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors, a floating focus mechanism, and the latest AF algorithms deliver AF speeds up to 3x faster1,2 with approximately 50% improved subject tracking2

Fully compatible with Alpha 9 III continuous shooting at up to 120 fps5 with AF/AE tracking

Lightweight Build, Exceptional Mobility

Combining the latest optical design, mechanical engineering with lightweight yet robust magnesium alloy barrel components, and high-efficiency, high-thrust XD Linear Motors, the lens achieves a lightweight and robust body at approximately 65 oz. (1,840g)

Inner-zoom design maintains constant length and stable center of gravity throughout the zoom range for precise framing adjustments without shifting balance

        Professional-Grade Control & Reliability

Built-in stabilization supports Active Mode and coordinates internal stabilization control on compatible bodies

Supports the camera body's breathing compensation6, correcting angle-of-view shifts during focus adjustments in video recording

Four focus hold buttons7 and a dedicated function ring for intuitive, personalized operation in the field

Dust and moisture resistant design8 with fluorine front-element coating maintains reliable performance in challenging conditions

InFocus Photo Exhibit Explores “The Space Between”

As Edmontonians, I don’t have to tell you how uniquely spoiled we are to have such a passionate and dedicated arts community. Our little city punches far above its weight when it comes to presenting and sharing inspiring local and international art. It’s a great place for a camera store like ours to have a home base, where we can support amazing events like the upcoming InFocus Photo Exhibit.

Now in its 12th year, InFocus Photo invites photographers from across the globe to explore unique artistic themes in photography. This year’s theme is “The Space Between,” that challeged photographers to celebrate the hidden threads that bind us all together. The InFocus Photo website explains:

The photographs in this exhibition challenge, question, and illuminate the liminal: the emotional gaps, the silent pauses, the overlooked details, and the beauty that exists in uncertainty and temporality. The photographs are expansive and contemplative, leaning towards those things that can’t be explained, only felt. This multi-venue exhibition presents visual poetry.

The exhibit runs from February 2nd to April 30th at three venues in Edmonton and Stony Plain. There are also two free events you won’t want to miss! There will be an Opening Party at Wild Skies Gallery in the Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel on the evening of February 3rd (7-9pm) and an Open House at Stony Plain’s Red Brick Common on February 7th (1-3pm).

Visit infocusphoto.ca for all the details. We highly recommend checking out this amazing collection of inspired photography.

» Visit the InFocus Photo Exhibit Website

Ricoh's GR IV Gets a Look in Monochrome

The wildly popular GR IV now comes in black and white, and we’re not simply talking about the body! No, from the inside out, the Ricoh GR IV Monochrome is a fully monochrome-dedicated compact camera designed to deliver rich black-and-white photos as timeless as those captured on film. Let’s run down the highlights of this afternoon’s announcement.

» Pre-order the Ricoh GR IV Monochrome

Each pixel of the GR IV Monochrome’s image sensor is dedicated to brightness data. Unlike a standard sensor that must filter light for red, green and blue, and interpolate that data to generate a colour value, the newly designed APS-C-sized sensor skips all that to produce an evocative monochrome image rich in tonal gradation. The sample image below shows off just how striking the images from the GR IV Monochrome can be.

Sample images courtesy Ricoh

To help users achieve the look they are chasing, Ricoh has developed two Image Control options for the GR IV Monochrome. “Solid” deploys a hard tonal curve for a crisp, clean look with vivid edge clarity. “Grainy,” on the other hand, creates an image similar to a silver-halide print, keeping highlights in check while preserving shadow detail and producing grain that's easily visible even when displayed on your phone.

Finally, Ricoh has included a red filter that can be activated with the press of a button. With only red wavelengths hitting the image sensor, you can achieve wonderfully contrasty skylines and isolate red subjects with brilliant clarity.

Other Features

28mm (35mm equiv.) F2.8 lens.

25.74 Monochrome CMOS APS-C image sensor.

ISO160 to ISO 409600 sensitivity range.

5-axis sensor-shift Shake Reduction (SR).

Image sensor dust removal using ultrasonic vibrations.

AA Filter Simulator: Moiré reduction using SR unit.

Electronic shutter enabling high-speed shooting up to 1/16000 second.

The Ricoh GR IV Monochrome is available for pre-order now at McBain, retailing for $2,499.99. Expected arrival is February 2026.

A Day in the Life of a Portrait Photographer — Powered by the Sony A7RV

As a portrait and family photographer, my days move fast. Most of my shoots happen during the holiday season when families, couples, and clients want to capture memories they can hold onto forever. I need a camera setup that keeps up with real moments, shifting light, and people who aren’t standing still for long.

New At McBain: ECN-2 Film Processing – The Cinematic Look Reimagined

If you didn’t need another reason to love film, listen up — because some freshly developed news just came in, and the gold standard of cinematic storytelling has now arrived at McBain.

If you’ve ever dreamed of giving your still photos that movie magic look, this is it: McBain is now offering ECN-2 film processing - the same process used to develop motion picture film stock like Kodak Vision 3.

What makes ECN-2 so special? It’s all about the aesthetic. This process delivers incredibly fine-grain, stunning detail, and a wide dynamic range that captures light with a softness and subtlety reminiscent of the silver screen. ECN-2 film is known for its muted tones and neutral contrast, giving photographers incredible flexibility to craft their own cinematic colour grade in post.

And sure, it’s a bit more complex than your standard C-41 roll as it requires a special remjet removal step and careful handling – but that’s precisely why it’s unique. The result renders images with rich character, depth and an unmistakable cinematic feel.

As with all processes, there will be pros and cons, but we’ve highlighted them below for you to compare:

Why you’ll love it:

Cinematic Look: Delivers the signature movie-style aesthetic with soft contrast and subtle colour tones.

Exceptional Quality: Fine grain, high resolution, and excellent dynamic range for stunning detail.

Creative Flexibility: Neutral base ideal for colour grading and creative editing.

Cost-Effective Film Options: Motion picture film stocks are often more affordable and easier to find than C-41 films.

Indoor-Friendly: Many ECN-2 films are tungsten-balanced for accurate colour under artificial light.

Built to Last: Properly stored ECN-2 negatives can remain stable for over a century.

A couple cautionary notes:

Extra Post-Work: Negatives are designed for motion picture grading, so scans often need more colour correction.

Unforgiving of Errors: Mistakes in exposure or processing can lead to colour shifts and lost detail.

Why McBain Is Excited

At McBain, we love seeing creativity evolve – and ECN-2 processing opens the door to a whole new visual language for photographers. Creativity doesn’t stop where convention does, and whether you’re a filmmaker dabbling in stills or a photographer chasing that timeless film aesthetic, our team is here to help bring your vision to life – one frame at a time.

Meet the Canon EOS R6 III and RF 45mm F1.2

The long-rumoured Canon EOS R6 III is rumour no more! Early this morning, Canon Canada announced the latest iteration of its popular enthusiast-level full-frame camera, bringing a suite of serious upgrades for photographers of all disciplines. Joining the R6 III will be a new RF 45mm F1.2 prime lens at an incredibly tempting price point. Let's dive into all the details.

Canon EOS R6 III

Featuring the same 32.5MP CMOS Image Sensor as Canon's latest C50 cinema camera, the EOS R6 III gets a 34% bump in resolution over its predecessor—more pixels to play with means more cropping flexibility and larger print resolutions for all your shots. And you'll be taking a lot, with continuous shooting up to a blazing 40 frames per second. The R6 III also supports pre-continuous shooting, capturing 20 fps before the shutter is fully depressed, ensuring your camera is reacting before your subject does.

The EOS R6 III is also positioned as a video powerhouse. The aforementioned cinema sensor can produce 7K recording up to 60p (Canon Cinema Raw Lite), oversampled 4K <60p, 4K 120p, and maximum recording flexibility with 3:2 Open Gate recording up to 30p. Canon has also made a quality-of-life upgrade to the menu system, making selecting your desired video resolution much more intuitive.

There have also been updates to the ports; gone is the mini-HDMI port, replaced with a standard full-sized connection. The dual card slot now supports one UHS-II SD card and a CFExpress card, providing the speed and capacity needed to record Canon Cinema Raw video.

Other highlights include:

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with People, Animal, Vehicle detection, and Register People Priority.

14 Colour Filters.

8.5EV Built-in image stabilization.

Canon Log 2 video with up to 15+ stops of dynamic range.

Versatility for Slow-Mo video or Fast Motion Time-Lapse.

Ability to apply a Look file (LUT) in-camera.

Transfer LUTs via Camera Connect app.

New Red tally lamp.

Natural 3.69m dot EVF with OVF View Assist.

3.0" Vari-Angle LCD Screen.

Overall, the EOS R6 Mark III promises to be a significant upgrade over the R6 II, while retaining a familiar weather-sealed form factor. The camera is expected to arrive in late November, starting at $3499.99.

Pre-Order Bonus - Get $500 Cashback!

From now until January 8, 2026, purchase a Canon EOS R6 Mark III body or kit and pair it with an eligible RF L series lens to receive a $500 pre-order cashback bonus from Canon.

Canon RF 45mm F1.2 STM Lens

The photography giant also dropped a new wide-aperture prime lens on us that is both unique in focal length and price. Canon is very excited about this lens and its expressive potential. Here are the highlights:

Standard 45mm prime lens with an f/1.2 aperture.

Large-diameter mount and short back focus, combined with digital distortion correction, result in a compact and reasonably priced f/1.2 large-diameter lens.

Bokeh, enabled by a large-diameter lens, allows users to create images with a three-dimensional look, isolating subjects from the background.

An aperture of f/1.2 allows for faster shutter speeds in darker situations.

Effective placement of one PMo aspheric lens reduces aberrations (a first for Canon in a f/1.2 lens).

Gear-type STM technology with a magnetic detection system enables a significantly smaller and lighter system.

The 45mm focal length is closer to human vision, providing more natural angles of view and perspective.

A dedicated control ring lets you customize the adjustment of various functions.

The RF 45mm F1.2 STM Lens is expected to arrive in December for just $569.99.
